Mr. Montgomery was very dedicated to the Chamber (and the Visitor Information Center when it was managed by the Chamber), its Appomattox Cheerz fundraisers, and he was a huge advocate for higher education. Jon's family members graciously accepted this honor on his behalf. Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to the Scholarship will receive an acknowledgement from the Chamber and a notification letter will be sent to the Montgomery family members.
The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce "Jon B. Montgomery Memorial Scholarship" is intended to provide financial support and assistance to any high school senior* who deserves assistance. The scholarship funds awarded is intended to be used by the recipient to cover expenses associated with higher education at an accredited institution.
The Scholarship recipient must be a senior in high school, and must be accepted to an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning (college or vocational school). The recipient must have a 2.5 or better Grade Point Average (GPA).
*NOTE: Applications are limited to those high school seniors who are in the immediate family of either a current member of the Chamber OR a current member's employee. An immediate family member is someone who resides in the same household. Family members of the Chamber's current Board of Directors or Scholarship Committee members are ineligible to apply for the Scholarship.
The Chamber will award one $500 scholarship in any given year. The recipient will receive a scholarship award certificate on their high school's Senior Awards day and a scholarship check will be mailed to the institution in which the recipient is enrolled.
Please note that the Scholarship Application and all accompanying documentation will be kept strictly confidential. The completed package must be received by the Chamber NO LATER THAN MAY 1st. You may hand-deliver the application package to the Chamber during normal business hours (Monday-Wednesday-Friday 9:00am to 2:00pm) or mail them to:
